One of the things I enjoy most about our “Brew Bloggers” site is the freedom to post entries at times that may or may not be related directly to brews. Now with that said, I would like to continue where my previous post (http://wp.me/p2JGQY-9W ) left off.
It has now been 6 months from that “A Life Changing Test…” post and I am happy to report my blood sugar levels and my A1C have subsided to almost normal levels. My weight is down by 33 pounds and the lifestyle changes are working. I have since reintroduced the tasting of different brews in moderation.
Fellow blogger, wineoh!006 came up with an idea of posting about maintaining a healthy lifestyle while still enjoying all the wonderful brew and what suggestions can be done to achieve this. So I would like to submit mine.
I have adjusted my diet moving away from sugars, “white” carbohydrates, heavy fats and processed foods. I have added more greens and whole grains and have added a consistent exercise plan. This has had a positive effect on all the systems in my body according to my Endocrinologist and my blood test results. Of course this has not been easy and does take some self-discipline.
Finally, I share this, not for accolades or Ata-boys, but with the hope it helps someone on the same path I was on to make a positive change. I look forward to posts from my fellow bloggers.
I began my health and wellness journey in August of 2005 when my father’s heart catheterization caused me to re-examine my own lifestyle choices. I was obese at around 250 pounds and already had high cholesterol. I was on my way to my own future heart problems and now know I was in the early stages of metabolic syndrome. A coworker introduced me to The South Beach Diet book, which was my kickstart to learning about food, ingredients and dietary effects on the body. Since August of ’05, I have successfully maintained eliminating table sugar and trans fats from my diet. I read the ingredients lists for every food I purchase and generally stick to foods with the fewest ingredients, that are made from whole, natural and mostly organic foods. Since introducing and maintaining the dietary changes and exercising regularly, I lost weight, lowered my cholesterol, have a consistent, healthy blood pressure and am excited about my general health and wellness. Tasting and enjoying beer and wine are passions of mine and my fellow bloggers, and can be incorporated into an overall healthy lifestyle.
Currently, I am in week 8 of a mission to lose 50 pounds. I will reach my goal in August of this year, and will be updating this thread with my progress and how I’m still enjoying brews and wine on my journey to achieve my goal. So far, I have been doing well with the low carb dietary adjustments and reducing my beer and wine intake, but it’s challenging!
