Big Barrel IPA, Karl Strauss Brewing Company, 1157 Columbia Street, San Diego, CA

One of nine brewpubs throughout Southern California, Karl Strauss has proven to me that this is one of the original brewpubs that brought on the craft brew revolution.  Thank you Chris Cramer, Matt Rattner and Karl, I am thoroughly grateful for your influence on my life.  A great influence that I am only just recognizing now, wow!  The featured pictures are from the brewpub a block from our hotel and I am feeling more grateful for their brews and availability of growler fills than any brew before, thank you.  The growler for tonight is Big Barrel IPA.  A double IPA with a West Coast flavor theme rather than the typical imperial flavor, this is a flavor I used to reserve solely for Stone brews.  Now I know where it originated and am super thankful for Karl’s influence that is responsible for this deliciousness.  This epiphany will prompt me to revisit all that I thought I knew about this delicious craft brew revolution and I will now have to re-taste all that I’ve tasted previously, oh darn!

Big Barrel is an easy drinking “West Coast Style” IPA that I have added to my must try list, a tasting bucket list if you will 😉  I’m almost through with this growler fill and am drinking more slowly as a result.  A sexy “genie” bottle that holds a little more than a half gallon with ‘Karl’ emblazed right on the glass container is available from their brewery with your choice of delicious brew.  I am very much looking forward to the rest of the week.  I wish we were able to go to a Karl Strauss brewpub in Southern New Jersey.  I wonder if they’ll ever migrate to the east coast?  My couch is available if ever you need a place to crash, we’d love to see you in our neighborhood 🙂 Cheers to Karl and thank you so much!
