Willimantic Brewing Company/Main Street Cafe is a gem I stumbled upon while visiting my family in Connecticut. Located in Willimantic, Connecticut and housed in a historic U.S post office built in 1909. The conversion of this property is nothing short of brilliant. Loads of granite and limestone, post office memorabilia and beer tap handles throughout.
The brewery is a seven barrel setup producing very fresh and tasty beers running the gambit from saisons to ipas to bitters to stouts. They have also incorporated some of the best beers that are available on tap from throughout the country. Special attention is paid to local Connecticut and New England brews but West Coast etc. is available. Our server was extremely knowledgeable of all the brews offered and even knew the taste and what could be expected.
The food was great also with a full menu including gluten sensitive selections.
They run specials all week and on the night we were there it was “bring your favorite drinking vessel for deep discounts” Some people had very large steins, boots, mugs…you get the picture. Overall, I loved this place. Visit if your in the neighborhood.
Wow! Thank you DaBoneMan, great reporting. I owe you a brew for this one, great stuff!
