Shallow Grave Porter, Mosquito Brewing, Millville, NJ

Shallow Grave is a clone kit from MoreBeer. The recipe comes from Heretic Brewing Company, Pittsburg, CA. This is a beer that lies on the upper end of the Robust Porter style.

This was the first batch of homebrew I have produced in over a year. There are some silver linings to this social distancing situation. It was really nice to go through the process and follow simple instructions.

Mashing in.
Sparging
Adding plenty of hops!
And getting a strong fermentation!

This recipe was designed to counter a solid malt bill with some assertive hopping. It’s a bit hoppier than your average porter, but that’s what you get from a Heretic beer.

This beer’s vital stats are as follows:

  • OG-1.060
  • FG-1.012
  • ABV-6.3%
  • SRM-33
  • IBU-33

I am still learning my Mash & Boil, so the OG did not get up where it should have. As I get used to the rate of boil off and other losses, the fruits of my labor will only get sweeter!
